Menopause

Menopause & Lifestyle Medicine

The transition into menopause is significant for women, in many ways. It is a time of great change and likewise, of great opportunity. Many women find that it can be challenging physically, emotionally and spiritually whereby many questions arise about her role and place as a woman in the world, in her community, in her family and within herself.

Over a period of up to 10 or so years these changes can be taking place, where her body is refining as it ages, the functionality of the body systems require different rhythms, different movements, different kinds of food. Menopause is a natural process that requires change and asks women to listen closely and adapt. And it starts with looking at and refining lifestyle - a super grand form of medicine that is in-built, that comes from our bodies and the quality of how we move it and live it.

Lifestyle Medicine is a super grand form of medicine at any age, that should form the foundation of how we look after ourselves and remain 'healthy'. At menopause, we can no longer ignore this necessity... because our body simply just won't let us :)

Lifestyle Medicine includes health eating, physical activity, mental well-being, avoidance of harmful substances, effective stress management, restorative sleep and healthy relationships. This approach offers an essential framework for menopause care.

Sara’s approach is founded on many years of experience working with women, as well as her own personal unfolding of her own relationship with her body and her understanding of what it means to be a woman, moving through all the different phases of life that we do. Such as puberty, our fertile years, mothering, perimenopause & post-menopause. Sara comes from the understanding that there is so much for us to embrace.

What women say...

I always learn something new about the female body when I listen to Sara's presentations, things I feel I should already know at the age of 50. Sara's presentation supports me to know that the way my body feels is the result of how I am living so therefore responsibility is key - and this I share with other women too. I have learnt the importance of self nuturing and how stress impacts on the body. Sara presents in such a gentle uniposing way sharing a wealth of knowledge and wisdom for all.

JACQUELINE, 50 / UK

Sara Harris consistently presents the 'seemingly complex' as actually very simple… empowering women through deeper understanding of our bodies, and encouraging us to forge our own relationships with our bodies as women. In a world that asks us to 'get on with it' and rarely offers true encouragement of intimacy with our own bodies, the cycles we are under and changes that can be occurring, this is deeply supportive. Without this, true appreciation and nurturing of ourselves is simply not possible. The buck indeed stops with us, these presentations and programs offering a wealth of resources to ignite the deeper enquiry and indeed, richness that is ever on offer. Thank-you Sara

VICTORIA, 53 / Australia

Support through these presentations helped me feel more in the loop with the next phase of my life. Before it, I had no clue really what menopause meant, particularly the (what I now sense is) beautiful blossoming of the next phase of womanhood. It helped me understand some of the symptoms of peri-menopause I'm experiencing too.

About Sara's Approach

In some regards, a woman’s health can be complex and yet at the same time, when we bring connection and education to the table, it is very simple. Sara works from the foundational understanding that every woman has the capacity to feel deeply settled and that this is her natural state. In working with any area of a woman’s health, the development of her relationship with her body is key, so that she may feel empowered rather than at the mercy of her body or what she is experiencing.

Sara's personal experience and growth as a woman and the roles that have come with that, along with her 20+ years experience in wellbeing, a Masters of Women's Health Medicine & Masters of counselling, brings a rich tapestry of support to her sessions and groups.
